Fear Maulana Allah and stop using this title for human beings, whoever he might be. I am sure the person to whom you are referring with this title, will not encourage this, if he is a learned person. Its a very common phrase around the golbe among the ulama themselves, who inturn are the best judge of what needs be said. Since the site has been created for a specific aalim. "Na" stands for "our". Thus "Our protector". You can ask the specific aalim, whether he encourages the use of the word for himself. It is used only in India, Pakistan & Bangladesh. No body uses that word to refer to an "aalim" in Arabic-speaking countries, because they know its meaning. Our "aalims" also avoid using that word in their letter-heads in their correspondence with the middle-east people. They dare not call themselves "Maulana" in front of the Arabic-speaking people. There is a great risk that we follow our elders (akaabir) blindly and on the qiyaamat day land in the Fire!. Just consider the following 3 verses of Quran from Sura Al-Ahzaab: --------------------------- 033.066 On the day when their faces are turned over in the Fire, they say: "Oh, would that we had obeyed Allah and had obeyed the messenger!" 033.067 And they would say: "Our Lord! we obeyed our chiefs and our great ones, and they misled us as to the (right) path. 033.068 "Our Lord! give them Double Penalty and curse them with a very great Curse!" --------------------------- Comment from Abdul Rahim   26.02.2010 - 19:26 1.
