Sleeping in Bayan

Assalam alay kum,

what ever I say, I say first about myself...

I am really sorry, but I don't buy the fact that sleeping during the bayan should be taken so lightly, nor should it be considered as "sakeena" descending upon the sleeper. I have had two new people, who are not well acquainted with this effort telling me that it is not worth coming to Friday night programs because they see so many people sleeping during the bayan. The country where I come from does not have big sheikhs like Maulana Tariq Jameel or Maulana Saad that would grasp your attention throughout the bayan. Unfortunately, I admit most of our bayans are not too flashy, but I don't think that gives any reason to sleep during the bayan, as sleeping does not have any positive impact on the rest of the majmah, rather, it has a very bad impression, especially on the new comers. Now, of course, seeing a number of people sleeping is not a good reason to stop coming to Friday night programs, but what I am trying to say is, we may think that we are doing no harm of having a nap for sometime, as a matter of fact, we are.

Brother I want to add that we should not say that ABC is big scholor and XYZ is not, bcoz our aiam is work is not make the peoples understand things but to make thim start actions upon what they know and 2ndly to make them habitual to learn Quran and Hadith.

Second thing is sleeping during Bayan or playing around is insulting the speaker and also insulting Allah and his Rasool (SAW) in my opinion coz we are giving importance to the foolish things upon the saying of Allah and his Prophet (SAW). The speaker is not saying his words but from Quran and Hadith, and as I am a teacher my self so I know how it hurts when a student is not attentive to the lecture.

Allah knows the best.

May Allah forgive us all, and give us tawfeeq to lisen bayans with concentration and act upong the things we learnt.
